BAAYA | THE ARTISAN SERIES
From the moulding and carving to the sketching and painting – many hands come together to shape a Baaya product. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to introduce you to the artists that create the masterpieces on our mantle and let you in on their personal stories.
Meet Venkat Raman Singh Shyam, a Gond artist from the heartlands of India. Venkat’s works abound with folklore handed down over generations. A protégé of his late uncle and folk art legend Jangarh Singh Shyam, Venkat is particularly drawn towards the sun and moon symbolism apart from tales of the local deities. His works preserve the legacy of the ‘Jangarh Kalam’, a school of art created by his guru.
