Kalighat M Paper

This art style was developed in 19th century, in the vicinity of the Kalighat temple in Kolkata, West Bengal. These traditionally depicted mythological stories but over time, a 
variety of social themes, day-to-day events and popular sayings have come to be reflected as well. The paintings are characterized by line drawings, the outlines of which are made with bold and elegant brush strokes. With shaded contours, the paintings have a plaque-like effect and are well sought-after in India and abroad.
