Description
A form of Buddhist painting on silk or paper canvas, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene or sacred geometry known as a ‘Mandala’. The Mandala paintings are traditionally created by monks and come from the states of Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh. They are visual meditation tools. A Mandala has many rings- each signifying elements to meditate upon- like fire, water, earth, air and ether. At the center of Mandala, the deity resides in its most elemental, pure form.
